Ferret Tricks

Ferrets learn easily

Ferrets are incredibly curious, smart and willing to learn. (Well, on their terms anyway). The best trick that I have ever seen a ferret pull of successfully, was making a friend’s wallet disappear. :) We later found it under the couch. Did I mention that they LOVE leather and rubber type materials ?

Speaking of rubber, that missing spatula of yours from the cupboard can also be found under your couch.

Seriously, ferrets can be quick learners. The very first thing to consider though is that if you are trying teaching a ferret anything while he is in a room unfamiliar to him … wait. Their curiosity for anything yet undiscovered or fully investigated will take precedence over everything else.

What to teach your ferret ?

I have seen ferrets run around obstacles, sit up, stand up, jump through hoops, play fetch and many more trained activities. Just start with the basics.

Teaching a ferret to roll over is remarkably easy. Every ferret that I have ever owned has accomplished this with minimal effort. The average time to learn was around 2 to 3 days. One of our more intelligent pals Bandit tackled this task in all of about 15 minutes !

I propose that will a little patience (and a favorite treat) you can teach your little guy or gal how to roll over within 3 days. Guaranteed !
