Trim your ferret’s nails in 3 easy steps
As most ferret owners already know, it can be quite challenging to hold your furry still while trying to trim their nails. Thanks to a handy and beneficial supplement, ferret owners have an absolutely full proof way of doing this.
Step 1
Get some Ferretone
This easy procedure starts with one of all ferret’s favorite treats … and you don’t even have to leave your house to get some !
Ferrets love it – and routine use of Ferretone will provide your baby with essential fatty acids and vitamins necessary to maintain a healthy skin and coat. This makes a great reward by itself or can be given a drop or two at a time as a supplement to food. It is almost a magical potion for capturing your ferret’s attention. Ferrets will many times eat a bit of Ferretone even when they are sick … and eating little else.
Oh, BTW – I have tasted Ferretone by accident. I don’t feel the same appreciation for it as my little rascals.
Step 2
Apply a bit of Ferretone to the belly
Giving Ferretone to your little furry will render him/her immobile. They will immediately stop in their tracks, forget everything else on their minds and show in intense tunnel vision type interest in eating this is fast as they can.
It is useful to prop your ferret up against a blanket, towel, pillow, etc… and place a couple of drops on their tummy. They will now focus on the Ferretone and nothing else. I think the house could burn down around them and they wouldn’t care.
Step 3
Carefully, start trimming their nails.
Now that you have your ferret clueless as to what is going on around him, start trimming their nails carefully. As like with any other pet, don’t cut into the fleshy or pinkish part of the nail. There are some detailed instructions on that point over at about.com.
Thats it ! Easy right ?
